Whispers of Winter

With the long departure of summer and hopes of warmth

You can hear the whispers of winter even in fall, the silent cries of the cold

Tumbling, roaring, and blowing toward us

And with it comes its bite, stinging and then numbing

As you breathe it in you,

feel its reach deep into your lungs

You feel an invisible frost seep over your body

Keeping you from feeling the embrace of the warmth that will come

Freezing the land for a time, keeping everything in its chilling domain
