In a recent frocking ceremony at the Battleship North Carolina, Marine Corps Col. (Ret.) Eric Terashima served as the MC and conducted the
swearing in of Major Derek Rey to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Frocking is the practice of an officer selected for promotion wearing the
insignia of the higher grade before the official date of promotion. The event was ordered to allow Rey to assume his new command next month at Fourth Air and Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) in Fort Meyers, Fl.

Tereshima and Rey have known each other since serving time together during the Afghanistan War.

Lt. Col. Rey was born and raised in Vallejo, Ca. where he attended USC on a Navy ROTC scholarship. Rey also served a couple of tours of duty
in Iraq, and now resides in Wilmington.

Colonel Terashima commented on how humble Rey is and how well-liked he is by those under his command. He was deep-selected from below zone for promotion. “He continues to be a top performer in his duties as a Marine Officer.” “When he takes command of his unit at Fourth ANGLICO in Fort Myers, Fl., his troops will be exceedingly fortunate to have a commanding officer as excellent as Derek.”
