On Saturday, April 15, 2023, the Cape Fear Voices/Teen Scene Award gala ceremony was held at WWAY studios in Leland. This is an annual event put on by “Cape Fear Voices/Teen Scene” newspaper.  The John E Jacobs American Legion post #68 commander, John Hacker presented the Writers Award for Non-Fiction / History to Edward Hume III. There were many local dignitaries including Leland Mayor Brenda Bozeman in attendance.

The Leland American Legion Post #68 supports the Cape Fear Voices and their TEEN SCENE Program. The Cape Fear Voices/Teen Scene awards recog­nized area students and writers in many different categories.
