Ode to Solitude

Jennifer Z., ECHS Freshman

You are free from crowds, free from ceaseless noise

Content with isolation of endless silences

Rooms cloaked in darkness and tranquility bring joy

Still with the soothing silences.

You hear the absence of sound, only the noise of white

White noises sounding like ocean waves, so peacefully at ease

Engulfed in silent rings clear as Church bells tonight.

With the wind’s slow breeze so close

Calming the restless mind at night

You smell like a home of belonging

Yet in solitude is becoming one with the space

Layed in soft, silky sheets slowly encasing.

The mind laid at rest by the silence embrace

With defining stillness of silent serenity never-ending.

You taste like loneliness and yet like companionship

As the light slowly ceases, darkness seeps and seeks to consume

Bury in pure darkness as the peaceful silence stills to a loom.

Accompany the mind, lulled to sleep like waves rocking a ship

You feel the emptiness of noise and fulfillment in peace of mind.

The night’s twinkling sky and soothing white noises of tranquility

Tranquility runs over the mind hushing it into serenity.

Darkness ceases, and light crawls slowly seeping into the day

As the mind’s peaceful silence slips away.

Deafening silence replaces with a noisy racket

Endless solitude of peace laid to rest

As solitude came to an end.
