It was the 911 call heard around the world,
The bravest among us, showed us who they were,
It’s what they do, who they are, abandoning all fear,
To respond to the call, despite the danger there.
They ran through tunnels, in doors and up stairs,
Many lives were saved, because they were there,
Their dedication and devotion were impossible to stop,
With disaster all around them, they ascend toward the top.
Then the world watched in disbelief, as before very long,
Despite their best efforts, their world came crashing down,
The bravest among us, had answered the call,
Never have so many, ever stood so tall.
From Shanksville to New York, America held strong,
In the face of terror, standing up against all odds,
And unlikely heroes, courageous, proud, and brave,
Gave their lives for freedom, in their attempt to save the day.
As we reflect on their sacrifice, and search for words to say,
To honor the bravest among us, we’ll never forget that day,
A charred and tattered flag stood vigil, rising up toward heaven,
As the bravest among us gave their lives, on that 911.
