I laid down on my back, in my backyard on the grass,
I stayed there to relax, and watch the stars go past,
I stared up at the Universe, and wished that I could fly,
And suddenly I was aboard, a spaceship in my mind…
The gravity that held me, released its hold on me,
And before long I was flying, high above the trees,
Up into the galaxy, my mind was taken over,
And guided by the light of a brilliant Supernova…
I was up there among the planets, far above the earth,
A song stuck in my head, about those “Drops of Jupiter,”
Mercury, Mars and Neptune, and Celestial Moons affixed,
If Pluto is now a dwarf, then where are the other six?
How can Orion and Sagittarius, the Hunter and the Archer,
Exist in perfect harmony with the Great Bear, Ursa Major,
Constellation situations, formed by groups of stars,
All eighty-eight are visible, depending on where you are.
Traveling on into infinity, can be hard to comprehend,
Earth is smaller than a needle point, in a Universe with no end,
Dodging blackholes and shooting stars, up where the air is thin,
I had to return to Earth, the only planet with oxygen!
I understand the importance, of our connection to outer space,
But the most important things in life, come from the human race,
So before we search for aliens, for whatever that is worth,
We should first all learn to get along, here on this planet Earth.
The end.
