As we approach the end of the growing season and head into fall and then winter, everything begins to change. Leaves start to fall, the air begins to cool and people begin to change how they dress.
“Definitely fall – I like leaves changing, not leaves dying,” Sophomore William Watson states in a short interview about what is better fall or winter.
Plenty of people feel that fall has a more lively aesthetic than winter does with the cool but not freezing temperatures, the falling but not dying leaves on trees, and the warm comforting flavors like pumpkin spice and apple cider.
Fall makes people feel calm and comfortable because it is not too cold or not too hot. Fall is also the time that most people start to change how they dress. They go from jean shorts to pants, T-shirts to sweaters, and sunglasses to scarves. For some people, this is the best part of fall where they get to wear sweaters and not be hot and sweaty in their clothes.
Fall is also known for its flavors. Pumpkin spice, apple cider, maple syrup, cranberry, caramel and so much more. New drinks and foods are sold, candles are bought, and perfume stores are stocked with warm scents like apple cinnamon instead of coconut and vanilla.
Sophomore Guiliana Migliosi says, “I like fall but the winter aesthetic is better.” Winter has a feeling of excitement because of the holidays starting to roll around and the new year coming in clutch. Winter also has many flavors that some people like more than the flavors in the fall season.
One thing that most people associate with winter is Christmas. People start to shop for presents to place under their lighted Christmas tree and food for Christmas dinner. Children start making their Christmas lists and Santa begins to show up in local shopping malls.
Some flavors and drinks are very popular around this time such as hot chocolate, roasted chestnut, peppermint, and hazelnut. This is the time that coffee stores get really busy selling out their warm drinks and pastries.
Overall, everyone has their own opinion on which is better, fall or winter. Fall is cool with a warm feeling and winter is cold with an exciting feeling. Both have different flavors that everyone loves and styles that bring out the creative side of people. The question is, which one is the best?
