Without knowing what I was looking
for, I found a discarded decoration
when grazing the shelves at Good Will.
It’s a star cleverly shaped into a Santa.
Or a Santa cleverly shaped into a star
with chipped paint and sawn wood.
It’s bigger than my hand, with two points
for his splayed legs, two for his hands,
a point for his Santa’s big hat head.
I stuck a nail through a piece of wood
with Christmas colors on it and now,
with the help of this nail, Santa, oddly
waving upside down, makes snow angels
in the air. A reminder to believe.
