I just realized something about myself,
I’m doing things I did when I was twelve,
It’s like my life has come Full Circle now,
Maybe that’s what retirement is all about.
When I was twelve I’d wake-up early to see the sunrise,
I still wake-up early but, just to know I’m alive,
And I still ride my bike, but not quite as far,
As I did when I was twelve and didn’t have a car.
When I was twelve, I only had one fear,
But, now that I’m older I don’t even hide my beer,
When I was twelve I played all day in the yard,
But, now I just mow it and then wash my car.
At twelve I sat at the table, until I ate all my peas,
Now I still don’t like them, I’ve had all I need,
At twelve I ate all the snacks I could get,
There are still a few in the stand next to my bed.
At twelve I built something strange in the garage,
And all the neighbors tried to guess what it was,
Now I spend time in my garage rearranging the shelves,
My wife claims I do that, to get out of the house.
At twelve, I wondered what girls were about,
Now all these years later, I still can’t figure them out,
I didn’t listen well at twelve or do what I was told,
Now I’m still not much better, perhaps ‘cause I’m old .
It doesn’t matter if you’re twelve or you’re ninety-two,
You should never stop doing the things you like to do,
Because life is great, when you take time for yourself,
So, stay young at heart and live life like you’re twelve.
