With the busy holiday season, it’s easy to overlook the needs of others who may not have family and friends in the area. This year, Cape Fear Voices and Teen Scene decided to reach out to nursing homes and senior living facilities and offer them recordings of some of our Christmas Stories.
Gerald Decker read the classic story, “The Night Before Christmas,” while Chuck Bins read, about a Christmas from his past, “The Best Christmas Ever.” Nancy Bryans read her story, “Christmas Calamity,” Isabella Billings read a poem by Dan Niezmik, titled, “Lucky Star,” and I read one of my stories, “Finding Santa’s Bag,” and another poem by Dan Niezmik, “A Christmas Miracle.”
Overall, this was an easy thing to do and took so little time. I hope others will get involved in this project going forward.
This was a pilot idea that can be further developed so that we are able to send recordings on a monthly basis, so we are remembering our seniors all year long, not just at Christmas.
