The Brunswick County Early College High School’s Dance Team performed many solos, and as the finale, a Barbie dance production. The recital took place on April 29th, at Odell Williamson Auditorium. This dance recital was attended by many friends and family to watch the dance team’s hard work and dedication they put into this event.
The purpose of this recital was to showcase the dance team’s work throughout the school year.
“I feel like it [the dance recital] showcases everything that we’ve been working on and it kind of shows a representation of our growth because some of the members came in with little to no dance experience and to see them grow,” says Freshman Ma’Kenzy Frink.
At the dance recital there were many dances performed. There were also so many people who really came together at that recital; the dancers themselves, and the audience members too.
“Just the dance recital itself was beautiful, you could see how much effort was put into it and just the choreography itself you can really see how much effort was put into it,” states Freshman Amelia Harrison.
Every dance was beautiful, but many people think that Elliana Morris’s solo Scars To Your Beautiful was one of the best and most impactful performances.
“I think Elliana’s. I loved Elliana’s dance, I liked hers,” says Freshman Terri McNaughton.
The recital itself started out with many personalized performances before turning to the main event which was the Barbie Production which the dance team has worked very hard on. In the Barbie Production even the basketball team joined in for one of the most comedic songs of the show; I’m Just Ken.
“It was a really great experience and overall, I think everyone should watch them dance again,” says Junior Yamil Hartmann.
At the very end of the show was an awards ceremony for the dancers who were retiring from the team and for the dancers who showed exemplary growth and impressive performance. The people who received the awards seemed to have really deserved it and had really worked hard for the awards they received.
“Yes, I believe the people who got awards really deserved it,” says Freshman Terri McNaughton.
Speaking of retiring dancers; two dancers are retiring from the team. The dancers leaving are sophomore Reesa Abramson and Senior Xavior Ellen. These dancers will be greatly missed and will definitely not be easily replaced; however, the dance team wishes them the best and hopes they have a bright future in dancing.
“I’m literally going to cry a lot [when Reesa leaves],” states Freshman Mackenzie Thomas.
Many audience members enjoyed being there for their friends and family. They came to the recital originally to support their friends but found an enjoyable experience instead.
“I thought it [the dance recital] was so beautiful like there wasn’t a moment I was bored, and I know all of them have worked so hard on all of those dances all year and just seeing that is amazing,” states Freshman Violet Azimi.
At the end of the day the recital seemed to be a wonderful success for our very own, The ECHS Dance Team.
“I think in the end it went well, it did go well it was what it was supposed to be I mean I thought it was amazing, especially since some things didn’t go to plan but in the end the show was very entertaining to watch,” expresses Freshman Violet Azimi.
“I mean I felt good, some of them sent chills down my spine and some I was giggling, you know, like in the Barbie one,” says Freshman Grace Montgomery.
