My niece, Katie, is a personal stylist in Los Angeles. We were talking about what’s new for the fall season and she gave me the following tips for looking great. It’s all about muted color. Popular fall colors include, reddish tones, rust colors, mustard yellow, hues of blues, olive green, camel tones and mid browns.
When it comes to your eye shadow, she says look for metallic colors. A metallic color is a color that looks like polished metal; it has a shine too it. So try, pearlescent silver, bronze, blue, brown or green. Pair these with a walnut brown eyeliner. Make sure your eyebrows are soft and well groomed. Thin lines are out.
This year, wear a pop of color on your cheeks to look healthy and liven up your face. She said that just opposite of the muted tones you may be wearing, berry hues for blushers were going to be big in the fall and we should look for light reflecting pigments in our blush. Think raspberry. If that’s too bold for you, look at peach tones; they vary dramatically in colors. Or, as Katie said, “red, earthy brick tones for medium complexions. And this year, place it on your full cheek, just below the cheekbone.
For your lips, think cranberry. It was hot in the summer and continues to ride a popular wave; but, magenta in a matte finish for late fall is going to be very popular. Magenta is a pinkish red tone.
When you look at liquid foundation, think full coverage, but light–no layers, just a small amount. You want your skin to look fresh and clean. She suggested COVERGIRL, Clean Invisible foundation. It comes in 24 shades.
No matter how old we get, women always want to look their best. Katie always looks great, so I’m going to give her suggestions a try.
See you on the red carpet!
