I’m always looking for fun things to do around Leland and recently, I found something new. The Amuse’em is located on Rts 74/76, just before Sandy Creek. This is not like any museum I have ever visited. The owner, Wayne Small, who is 80, has travelled around the world three times. He has collected oddities and rare finds, but to me, Wayne was the main event.
He has a story for every piece in his collection and enjoys sitting back and talking to you about his life in the military, his travels and his collection in general. Wayne is funny and has a sharp mind. He is also a standup comedian. I found out that he is hosting a “Gong Show” type event at Gio Fund in October.
According to Chris Rogers, owner and operator of Gio Fund, Wayne took a comedy class there and went on to perform. ” The audience loved him,” said Chris. The Gong Show Event will be held on Friday, October 4, from 6 to 10 p.m. Singers, dancers, magicians, comics or whatever your talent is, are invited to go online at www.giofund.org to register for a 10 minute spot on the program. If you aren’t “gonged” after 10 minutes, you have a chance to win a cash prize. Tickets are $5.00 at the door, or online. I suggest going online to purchase your tickets.
Gio Fund is located at 117 Village Road and is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. They are a “no kill” animal welfare organization that is a combination of thrift store, animal rescue fundraising event center, donation center, online sales center and pet food distribution center. If you make a $25.00 donation, you become a Gio Fund card member, which gives you 20% off of any thrift shop item and entitles you to attend any $5.00 ticket event for free.
October 4 promises to be a fun evening. Go have some fun, laugh and enjoy Wayne Small and all of the performers at Gio Fund.
