The Leland community is popping with excitement over the launch of its first-ever Mural Project. Spearheaded by the Murray family of Mimi & Papa’s Gourmet Popcorn and Sweet Shop, this initiative aims to revitalize the local landscape with vibrant art and support for small businesses.
The idea for the mural project was born two years ago when Misty Murray Pelliciotta, daughter of Phyllis and George Murray (Mimi & Papa), sought innovative ways to increase visibility and engagement at the family’s beloved shop. Inspired by the captivating murals that have adorned businesses in Charlotte, Misty envisioned a similar opportunity for Leland.
With the support of the building owner, the Town of Leland, & other neighboring businesses, the project gained momentum this year. The Murrays reached out to their business neighbor, Steven Kennedy, from Sweet Nectar Florist, who, through his connections with talented local artists, helped bring the right people together for the project.
Three exceptional artists, Ricardo Perez, Carol St. Hilaire, and Loretta Partin, all members of The Art League of Leland, have generously volunteered their time and skills to create this stunning mural. Their artistic expertise and passion for the project have been instrumental in bringing this project to life!
The Murrays are actively involved in the project, providing supplies, refreshments, and even lending a hand with the initial preparations. Local Girl Scout Troop 4253 will also be contributing to the mural on Sunday, September 22nd to keep with the collaborative community theme.
A dedication will be incorporated into the mural to honor Mr. Ezra Dale, a valued member of the Leland community. A special thank you goes out to his daughter Sandi Williams and the rest of the Dale Family for their support of the project and their commitment to the town and this business complex.
This first Leland Mural Project is more than just a piece of art; it’s a symbol of community spirit and a testament to the power of collaboration. The Murray family hopes that the mural will inspire a sense of pride and belonging among residents and visitors alike.
As the first phase of the project unfolds, the community is eagerly anticipating the completion of the mural. Stay tuned for updates and follow @mimiandpapaspopcorn for the latest developments.
