ANNOUNCING THE WINNERS OF THE LELAND MIDDLE SCHOOL BIOGRAPHY CONTEST

Ms. Vega’s WIN Journalism class participated in a biography contest over Thanksgiving break.
Ruby Clark, 1st place

Ms. Vega’s WIN Journalism class participated in a write a biography contest over Thanksgiving break.

Each student selected a photo of a famous person and was asked to find something unusual about the person in addition to detailing their life experience and the reason they became famous.

It was indeed a close contest with only one point separating the second and third place winners.

Congratulations to 3rd place winner, Sara Ivey for her biography of Ella Fitzgerald; to 2nd place winner, Daniel King for his biography on Gavin Newsome and 1st place winner, Ruby Clark for her biography on Maya Angelou.

This is an amazing class with talent and creativity.  I hope to see more from them.

Jan Morgan-Swegle is the Editor of Cape Fear Voices.  She has been writing for CFV for more than  3 years.  She is originally from Strongsville, Ohio, (a suburb of  Cleveland)  and moved down to Leland 13 years ago.  She and her husband, Tony, and their dog, Dixie, enjoy sitting on the lanai listening to music and sharing wine (Dixie likes white wine but only gets two finger tips full!!)  They have 3 children and 9 grandchildren living in Olmsted Falls, Ohio,  Charlotte, North Carolina and Lakeland, Florida.  Jan always dreamed of being a writer and Gerald Decker helped her make that dream come true.
