At the end of every year, Pinterest puts out their “Pinterest Predicts” list which is a forecast for what they believe will be a big trend in the new year.
In 2025, it’s all about “Castlecore,” which is all things ancient and gothic inspired. Think castles, suits of armor and dark, bold accessories on long, heavy chains. Interior designer, Christiane Lemieux, said that “Castlecore as it relates to interior design is more stylish than it sounds. It blends dramatic and opulent designs with elegance.”
She continued, “Think of the drama of stone walls, dark woods and metal accents. Think texture—layered drapes, wall tapestries, velvet upholstery.”
Rebecca Goesling, a “trend forecaster” and director of design at Goesling Group, agrees, 2025 will be the year of bold color. She said, “Ivory, honey and espresso create a warm backdrop for the rich reds of crimson and garnet will we see this year.”
Pinterest also suggest that baby names in 2025 will reflect the Castlecore trend.
We may be introduced to Amabel, which means “loveable.” Jehan, a variation of John, which means “God is Gracious” or Adeline, meaning, “noble.” The name, Gerald, which is the modernized version of Gerhart, meaning “brave spear” is another name that has medieval roots and may be popular in 2025. Or there’s Rosaline which means “beautiful rose.” Piers, will be a popular name for a boy, it means “rock.” What about Eleanor, after the 12th century queen of Aquitaine? In keeping with the Castlecore spirit, Eleanor can be Aenor or Alienor, which means “beauty.” We may see more boys named Colin, which means “victory of the people.” If not Colin, how about Ellery for a boy? Ellery is derived from the medieval name Hilary, which means “cheerful and lively.” Could there be a Bronwyn in your future? The original spelling is Branwen, which means “white raven.” Or, maybe Avelina is more to your liking. This name comes from the medieval name, Avice, which means “bird.” If William is a family name, Wilkin is the Castlecore equivalent and means “strong will or desire.” And, finally, Faron which means “journey” and can be used for a boy or a girl.
There was a song in the sixties that said, “everything old is new again” and it looks like that’s true.
Who knows, maybe the Pinterest Prediction list of baby names for 2026 will swing to names from outer space. How do you feel about the name Grabthor?
