There outside in the life-filled yard,
Whimsical and dewy, bright green shards
Resistant through the rain and snow
These whimsical shards have far to go
Tall and healthy, there they stand
While animals come and trudge the land
What a shame, the whimsical shards
Crushed right in their own front yard
Soon enough, they fade away
If only they were here to stay
Those whimsical shards, full of life
Now dull and brittle, no green in sight
Those faded shards, now tainted and dead
There in the yard, full of dread
No more shards, now just weeds
Replace the grass, which once was green
