US troops deployed to provide security for a 30,000-person migrant facility at the U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as part of President Donald Trump’s administration’s immigration crackdown throughout the United States
Several hundred troops will provide security, according to plans announced last week by the White House. There are currently 310 service members supporting the migrant “holding operations” with elements from the U.S. Southern Command, U.S. Army South, and U.S. Marines with 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. Over the weekend, 170 Marines deployed to the U.S. military base in Cuba.
Roughly 500 soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division, based out of Fort Drum, New York, have been directed to mobilize to Texas to establish a Joint Task Force Headquarters for the southern border mission with the expected help of Mexico’s 10,000 soldiers promised to the border to stop the flow of fentanyl and migrants into the U.S.
As of February 2025, there is an estimated amount of about 13.7 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. In 2020 the Government Accountability Office reported that “ICE” at some point detained over 2 million non-citizens with criminal records over a multi-year period. As of more recently with President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement “ICE” has been more empowered than ever, detaining hundreds of non-citizens and criminals every day, protecting the people and freedom of the United States.
