Who We Are

Teen Scene, Inc., is registered in the State of North Carolina dba (doing business as) Cape Fear Voices.  The Teen Scene, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that produces a monthly publication written by and for teenagers.  Teen Scene’s mission is to empower our middle and high school students by helping them improve their oral and written communication skills.  We do this through established programs such as Toastmasters and by supporting journalism based clubs in their schools,  providing state of the art equipment and tools for them to expand their knowledge.   We are partners with William Clarke College in Kellyville (near Sidney)  Australia, mutually sharing our stories and learning what life is like for teens in a different part of the world.    In 2024, we  branched out to include teaching  interviewing and presentation skills so they could start to not only create, but edit their own podcasts on community related subjects such as the Rice Festival and  local area STEM projects.  These amazing teens are our future and we are honored to be a part of their growth and success.     As a nonprofit organization, we offer modest scholarships to participating teen interns and staff writers.

Teen Scene Relationship to Cape Fear Voices

The Teen Scene is a monthly, free to the public, publication created by and dedicated to teenagers in the Cape Fear Region.  Cape Fear Voices (CFV) is also a monthly free publication that showcases the creative works of adults and seniors living in the region.  CFV will provide an outlet to recognize other regional nonprofit organizations that work to improve the lives of children and families in the area.  In each instance we provide a quality outlet for  the region’s literary and creative talents.

Our Philosophy

We work to publish the highest quality product.  For Teen Scene, we accomplish this by accepting  recommendations  from teachers for students who have excelled in the area of journalism and leadership and by recruiting dedicated teens who are willing to put in the time and effort to develop their skills.  Our role in either Teen Scene or Cape Fear Voices is solely to promote and showcase individuals’ creative talents in the Cape Fear Region. As such, we will not publish any religious piece designed to recruit or tarnish any religious organization.  We will not publish politically themed work that may be submitted for publication.  We will not publish socially unacceptable language and we will not allow the website to be used for personal gain by writers or contributors.
