Civil Air Patrol Helps Launch

Dreams of Aviation Careers

Civil Air Patrol (CAP), America’s premier public service organization for conducting emergency

services and disaster-relief missions nationwide, offers a year-round program for cadets. In the

CAP Cadet Program, cadets fly, learn to lead, hike, camp, get in shape, and push themselves to

new limits.

“If you’re dreaming about a career in aviation, space, or the military, CAP’s Cadet Program is

for you,” says Lt. Colonel Rick Paxton, Director of Development for the mid-Atlantic region.

As the auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, CAP’s vigilant citizen volunteers are there to search for

and find the lost, provide comfort in times of disaster, and work to keep the homeland safe. Its

56,000 members devote their time, energy, and expertise toward the well-being of their

communities, while also promoting aviation and related fields through aerospace education and

helping shape future leaders through CAP’s Cadet Program.

To become a cadet, you must be at least 12 years old and under aged 19. Cadets usually meet 2

hours per week and one Saturday per month, on average, and also have opportunities to attend

leadership encampments, career academies, and other activities during the summer.

The North Carolina Wing, commanded by Colonel Ed Angelovich of Brunswick County, has 32

squadrons and totals about 2000 adult and cadet members. There are two squadrons in our area:

 The Cape Fear Composite Squadron in Wilmington, commanded by Lt. Colonel Jeff

Farkas, meets 7-9 p.m. Mondays at the DAV building, 4601 Park Ave. in Wilmington. For

info call (910) 977-2900.

 The Brunswick County Composite Squadron, commanded by Captain Karl Noffke, meets

6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Cape Fear Regional Jetport, 4015 Airport Rd. SE in

Southport. For info call (203) 598-9365.
