The Weight of the Water

The+Weight+of+the+Water

As I am greeted with the pastor’s kind handshake,

I step into the water.

My clothes were all wet and soggy,

and my stomach twisted in a knot.

I turn to face the crowd, all eyes on me.

The pastor takes my hand and speaks to the crowd slowly.

“Because you’ve professed your faith in the Lord Jesus,

I now baptize you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”

I hold my breath as he dips me in the cold blue water.

I feel a sensation of relief and cleanliness rushes through my veins.

Chills run down my spine.

I feel as if I have been purified and reborn.

When I surface the water,

I cannot help but smile.

The crowd claps and cheers,

I feel proud of myself.

I almost fall into tears,

knowing I am now clean.

I no longer have the weight of sin on my shoulders.

I am free.
