Welcome to April Fool’s month, a month of surprises in the weather and elsewhere. Our Teen Scene writers have intriguing stories awaiting you. Prepare to be surprised by the varied subjects and insightful perspectives. No fooling!
Do you find libraries uninviting? Don’t be an April Fool! Be sure to read, “Exploring New Worlds at Your Local Library” by Teen Scene Freelance Writer Makayla P.
We continue with news stories, “Duo the Owl” by Sam B., Honours Guild Homeschoolers, who informs and entertains us about the Duolingo mascot being announced dead! His classmate Tripp O. writes about “Jimmy Butler’s Debut at the Warriors” and Levi B. reports on “US Troops Head to Guantanamo Bay”—all three are new but not foolish writers to Teen Scene.
Don’t be fooled by “What is a Role Model” by Hannah W., also a new writer from Honours Guild Homeschoolers. But you may be an April Fool if you missed “Coastal Comic Con” by reporter Sophie H., Teen Scene Intern, from Wilmington Christian Academy.
Read an inspirational story about a fellow student at Brunswick County Early College High School written by classmate Josie B. entitled, “Graduate Spotlight: Hayden Fisher” who is set on a technology career path. He is not fooling around!
Are you familiar with “hustle culture”? If yes or no, you will want to read “In Doers, We Trust” by Patricia P. Then to top off foolishness—oh, wait—this is a serious opinion piece, read “The Art of the Dictator” by Josh M. Both writers hail from William Clarke College, Sydney, Australia, as part of our international student voice partnership.
April is designated as “STEM Education Month,” in North Carolina, a time to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Our Teen Scene Interns, Makayla P. and Gabriel H. conducted a fascinating study funded by Duke Energy, “STEM Programs in Brunswick County.” Next, read “Gullah Geechee: Not Just a Celebration of Rice“ as observed by our on-the-scene reporter for Teen Scene, Gabriel H. No April foolishness by these teen writers!
