Rhett Holland, age sixteen, has always had a passion for music. He’s been playing the drums since he was five, and guitar since he was eleven. On March 14th, that passion paid off. Rhett held his first CD release party to celebrate his first album– called The Dollar Menu. This album features 11 songs and is available on Spotify and Apple Music.
Aside from music, Rhett has many hobbies, such as drama, tech theater, and “pursuing the ladies.” His CD release party was held in downtown Wilmington at Current Coffee, and attended by both family and friends. At age fifteen, releasing an album is an incredible feat!
Rhett identifies his music as a combination of “alt rock on crack” and power pop. He started posting videos on YouTube, one of which was a cover of an Otis Ball song. This cover put him directly in contact with the industry veteran and musician, who has since mentored him. Rhett was inspired by Kim Shattok and Billie Joe Armstrong. His favorite song is “The Girl I Knew Somewhere” by the Monkees. Rhett also listens to The Beatles, They Might Be Giants, and Otis Ball.
Rhett is currently a sophomore at Laney High School. He is young, yet already a talented musician– I would seriously recommend checking his music out, he’s really going somewhere! His music is unique but amazing, and his skills on the guitar are unmatched. Check him out, and support a young musician!
