When most people hear the word ‘investing,’ the most common thought is of the stock market. Yet, there is so much more to investing, and yes, investing is for everybody! This includes minors (I started successfully investing in the stock market at age 14), as well as the inexperienced investor! When it comes to investing, one of the best things you can do is get started, don’t wait!
What are some different forms of investing? One of the most commonly known forms of investing is indeed the stock market! When you buy a share, or a piece of a share, you have just bought a tiny slice of a company! This opens up many opportunities for financial growth and prosperity! Some great options for starting out are index funds (stocks containing multiple to hundreds of companies, like the S&P 500), ETFs (a less commitment form of index funds), and sectors (stocks containing most or all of the companies in a sector, such as health or finance).
Bonds are also a good investment. Some great options to look into are Corporate Bonds, 10 Year Treasury Notes, and 26 Week T-Bills. Another must-have is investments for retirement! No matter what your age, the best thing you can do is to go ahead and open up a Roth IRA (you can open up one of these today!), or a 401K (provided by most employers). Believe it or not, Real Estate is also a form of investing! Whether it is purchasing property for personal use, or for commercial use, this is indeed an investment! More investment options exist, and are definitely worth looking into, but the options previously laid out are perfect for the relatively new or inexperienced investor!
So how do you get started? Many companies and organizations exist to assist in investment education, strategy, and monitoring. Many of these have free plans, and are extremely accessible. Remember, while one of the best things you can do is start investing today, investing is a long term strategy and not a get rich quick scheme. It can be one one of the most rewarding financial decisions that you make, it can unlock doors, and result in prosperity in the long run. Investing? Investing is for everybody.
