Stuck Inside This Girl

Elizabeth F., 8th Grade Leland Middle School

I don’t know what to do.

I can’t speak or move.

I’m stuck,

Stuck inside this girl.

I don’t know who it is.

She sounds like me.

She looks a little like me.

I guess she’s me? But…

She doesn’t act like the real me…

I don’t think she’s me anymore.

She’s happy, I’m not.

She is proud of her choices, I’m not.

Her friends love her, mine don’t.

I realized who it is.

It’s a different me.

But it is not the real me.

It’s the me I show outside.

The fake smile,

The “make people think your happy” smile.

The “never let anyone know who you are” smile.

I hide myself in this girl.

She is my shield.

She is my home.

She is my life.
