The Benefits of Having Music while Studying

Every student has individual opinions, even with something as simple as music. Music has helped students study and stay focused in the classroom. Headphones help students concentrate and learn through both music and everyday use.

Students worldwide have separate personal musical opinions. “While reaching the brain in the right areas, music can help to mood and focus—which can help us pay attention better while retaining information more effectively”(Robyn D. Shulman). Shulman says that music can improve your mood and focus as well as help us with paying attention.

It can help you calm your physiology without making a conscious effort, and that can alleviate stress from your mind”( Elizabeth Scott). Students use music to concentrate on their studies and concentrate on their work. Students use music more for studying and concentration than as a distraction.

Some music isn’t always good to listen to in class. Instructor Nicky Davis says, “Loud or agitated music can have adverse effects on reading comprehension and on mood, making focus more difficult.” Davis also states, “Students who listen to music with lyrics while completing reading or writing tasks tend to be less efficient and come away having absorbed less information”. Loud music and more lyrical music have adverse effects when it comes to studying.

The survey conducted at Brunswick County Early College High School showed us that there are many, many different song traits. Every student is different in their own regard and their music tastes show that. “Science shows that music can help improve cognitive performance. In simple terms, it helps your brain function”(Sofiya Shazal). This study shows how music can improve our performance and brain functions.

Music can help us focus and de-stress in a classroom environment. Listening to music in class can help with academic performance as well as brain function. Music could be an essential part of the classroom.
