There comes a time every summer that every school-aged person hates: back to school. A time when summer fun at the beaches fades into back-to-school shopping and scrambling to complete summer reading projects that have been put off to the last minute. But just what can we do to prepare for this change?
Make sure you have a cute new style for school. This time of the year brings forth a wonderful excuse for one of my favorite things– clothes shopping! Though my school has a uniform, many schools do not, so shopping for new shoes and clothes can be a great way to feel ready and excited for the upcoming year.
Make sure you have all the appropriate school supplies. Last year, I spent nearly each and every day begging my friends for pencils, or rummaging through desks for spare paper. This year, I’ll be prepared– and you should be too! School is tough without the right supplies. I personally like to buy cuter things– like rainbow pens, or cute stickers. Though of course not for everybody, this can make it fun! It certainly does for me!
Make sure you have completed all of your summer homework. Though I know many of us have pushed off our summer reading to the last minute, it’s important to get it done. Summer assignments do count, and may be referenced throughout the year. I’d hate to miss out on such a grade this early in the year, and wouldn’t you? So put aside a day or two, and get it done!
Though the change from summer heat to autumn leaves may bring many negatives, this time of the year brings many positives, too. For one, it brings structure where there is none in the summer– at least for those without a job! It also allows us to see our friends every day– socialization is a key player in cognitive development, you know! Additionally, each year that passes pushes you closer and closer to a future you design. So no matter how dreadful the return to school may be, keep in mind that there are ways to be prepared, and things to look forward to!
