Boo! Yes, that’s right folks Halloween is just around the corner. Pull out your costumes and buy your candy because Halloween is FINALLY on a Friday this year!! No more early school mornings after your late night of trick or treating.
This month we have a line-up of stories from both writers at The Teen Scene as well as a few pieces from some local Teen Writers. If you have a story or story idea, please email us at [email protected]. We would love to hear from you!
Speaking of Halloween Spirit, check out writer from Brunswick County Early College High School, Lillianna F.’s story, The Shape of Fear: 1990s TV Miniseries V.S. 2017 Film IT, an in-depth analysis of Stephen King’s IT as it was adapted into a miniseries in 1990’s and a movie in 2017.
October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so make sure you show your support by wearing pink this month. Check out writer from West Brunswick High School, Bailey B.’s article titled The Battle, about Chellie McDowell, an inspiration and survivor of Breast Cancer.
Check out, also from West Brunswick High School, Tess C.’s and Sadie J.’s article, Back At It Again, a story about the Dream Team – West Brunswick’s Principal, Justin Hayes and Assistant Principal, Melissa Blake.
Have you heard about Bellville’s new mayor, Chuck Bost? Whether you have, have not, or just want to learn more about him, check out Sophie’s article, “Roll Up Your Sleeves and Work Hard:” an Interview with Chuck Bost, where Sophie was given a one-on-one interview with the new mayor.
In Brunswick County, we are very fortunate to have so many local non-profits that benefit our community in so many ways. In fact, Teen Scene and Cape Fear Voices are both non-profits. During the course of the month, check back periodically to see which local non-profit is being spotlighted. We begin the month; however, with my article Matthew’s Ministry: Food Changes Lives, a spotlight on weekly food backpack program Matthew’s Ministry.
More solemnly, it is with heavy hearts that every victim and their families, who were a part of the recent shooting in Southport, remain in all of our thoughts and our prayers.
So in October, let us celebrate in remembrance. Let us enjoy the thrills of Halloween while wearing pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. Let recent events not define us as a community, but make us stronger as a community. Happy Reading!
Best Wishes,
Gabriel Hughes,
Editor, Teen Scene
