My Fifth Rose

Malia Flaverney, 6th Grade Leland Middle School

I was picking roses and I found 5 roses. So, I gave you one. I may have rarely seen you but you still meant a lot. It’s been so long… my memory of you is withering away. I have forgotten your name. I’m sorry, I never was ready for you to go. You left so soon. You kept it till you left. I gave you my fifth rose. Then it withered…

My Fourth Rose

I had 4 roses left, so I gave you one. We were a great duo. You were a part of the family; we took you when they couldn’t. I met you when I was younger. You weren’t that fond of me when we first met, but we grew up together and you grew on me. But we found out something about me. It was never your fault. We had to separate. About a year later you left forever. There was no coming back… you were really gone. You kept it until you left. I gave you my fourth rose. Then it withered…

My Third Rose

I had 3 roses left, so I gave you one. You meant a lot to me. Everyone misses you even after these years, especially me. I looked up to you very much and still do. You had an uninvited guest, who came in and took over, they knocked you down. You kept fighting. It was slowly eating you up. But you put on a brave face. Until you couldn’t anymore. There you were lying in the bed. Everyone came to give love to you, but you had your time to go. You kept it until you left. I gave you my third rose. Then it withered…

My Second Rose

I had 2 roses left, so I gave you one. You were very special to me. You came to my birthdays and holidays. You were very close to our family. For many years you have been dealing with something. Not too long ago you had to leave everyone. You kept it till you left. I gave you my Second. Then it withered…

My Final Rose

I have 1 rose left, and I’m saving for you. You used to be normal. Just another member of the family. But then you changed. Your priority changed. We all tried to help you, but you wouldn’t take it. You’re slowly slipping away and you don’t care or come to realize. No one wants you to leave, but we want you to fix it. You won’t quit, you say you will but you have become so addicted, you weren’t able to show up to important events because of your addiction. I will be giving you my last rose. It’s starting to wither…
