Since it is February, and the most significant holiday this month is Valentine’s day, I’m determined to talk about Eros! 

So who is Eros? Eros is the Greek version of Cupid! He is usually the son of Aphrodite and Aries, but he sometimes is a primordial titan who helped the Greek Gods. 

Eros is the Greek God of passionate love, he decides who loves one another, by taking his arrows and bow and shooting them through the heart of Gods and mortals alike! So let’s talk about some of his myths.

Eros and Psyche: If you were at the open arts night I talked somewhat about this myth, so basically here’s it summarized because I already talked about it before.

-A princess is so pretty that people start her worshiping as Aphrodite

-Aphrodite gets mad

-Sends son Eros to make her fall in love with a hideous monster

-He falls in love instead

– Psyche (the girl) betrays him

-He gets upset and flies away

-Aphrodite bullies Pysche and makes her do a bunch of tasks

-She does the tasks with the help of the other gods

-Eros is no longer upset with Pysche and misses her

-Psyche dies 

-Eros grabs her soul before she foes to the underworld and marries her

Eros and Apollo: As you probably know this is about Daphne, the laurel tree. Again summarized because there’s a page limit.

-Apollo is being a brat and insults Eros’s archery skill

-Eros gets mad and makes him fall deeply in love with Daphne

-Makes Daphne hates Apollo

-Daphne begs the Earth to keep her away from Apollo if it means death

-The Earth turns Daphne into a laurel tree

-Apollo is sad until he meets a pretty prince who also gets turned into a plant

Eros’s sacred plants are the rose, the myrtle, and the apple tree, though I don’t know why it’s the apple tree. 

I mentioned earlier that sometimes he is a primordial deity, who is older than gods who are sometimes described as more powerful than Zeus. Why? Because you know all those stories where Zeus has a bunch of kids, aka every single myth, is because Eros made him fall in love. Yeah, but in the modern day, he is the son of Aphrodite and Aries.

So, that’s Eros and some of his more famous myths.
