Reflection

Michael Hawkins, 8th Grade Leland Middle School

Why do I look at myself this way

Do I see my reflection of my own eyes or someone else’s

Why do I get a queasy feeling when I see you

Do I make myself sick

Do I not like myself

Maybes it’s because I see the truth when I see you

I see a flawed being that makes mistakes

I see a person who has and will do things that are not perfect

You are a piece of me forever trapped on a side of the veil

Maybe it’s you who is real and me thats the reflection

It figures in this world of half truths and deceptions

An invisible wall

Separates us, the black and white with the gray in between us

I reach and feel something real before the fantasy of you

For you needn’t be dragged into this reality
