Leland VFW Post 12196 and Auxiliary, in partnership with the Veterans Creative Arts Program (VCAP), hosted a Women Veterans Luncheon on May 24 at the Dreams Center for Arts Education in Wilmington, NC.
Patty Kelley, a Trustee of Post 12196, organized the program with the assistance of Cammeron Batanides, President/CEO of the VCAP. The purpose of the program was to open a dialogue with area female veterans to discuss issues, especially related to their service, and how VCAP can develop programs to assist with those issues.
USAF Lt. Col. (ret) Kelley stated that she was very pleased and excited with the turnout and the quality of speakers who were on hand to talk to the 34 veterans in attendance. According to Kelley, the response was such that this may become an annual event to make sure women veterans’
issues and concerns are heard.
The speakers included USAF Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Martha Rainville, Dr. Kathy Roth, USA LTC. (ret) President and Founder of At Liberty Connections, and Ms. Batanides representing VCAP. Thanks to all of you for your service and for your service to veterans. We would also like to thank Dreams for the use of the space.
