We think it’s time to recognize our veterans on this side of the bridge. We are a very fast-growing county and a very heavily populated county of retired veterans. At what point should we enjoy such celebrations on this side of the bridge? We think now, so the program can begin to grow as the county grows. There is really no reason to wait any longer. I know hundreds will say, “IT CAN’T BE DONE!” Well, I beg to differ.
It is true that the Town of Leland and Village Road would be a great place to have a patriotic parade. However, the rules to host a parade in Leland are prohibitive, to say the least. The rules are such to suggest that Leland is not really interested in having any kind of parade, so we can accommodate that notion. Additionally, the park is still under repair with no certain date of completion.
We are very thankful to Mayor Allen and the Town of Belville for stepping up to help us organize and plan a major Veterans Day Event at the Belville Riverwalk. We are hoping to have some military, ROTC, JROTC, and Civil Air Patrol representation on hand. We think we have rounded up some current military equipment to have on hand for everyone to see.
