Cultural Arts Programs
Experiment with different styles of painting and drawing using a variety of instructor-provided, water-based and dry materials. Explore creative approaches and discover new ways to develop dynamic artwork. Skip date: Nov. 1.
Wheel Throwing
Establish and build upon knowledge of wheel-thrown pottery. Topics may include centering clay, throwing various forms, making attachments, glazing, etc. Beginner and intermediate.
Create three baskets using a variety of techniques, including designs inspired by Eastern Native American traditions. Advanced. Skip date: Nov. 24.
Health and Fitness
Mix low-intensity and high-intensity dance moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance party. Elements of dance fitness are combined, including cardio, muscle conditioning, balance, and flexibility, leaving participants energized. Supplies needed: water bottle. All levels
Combine ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, yoga, dance, and strength training. Small isometric muscle movements will improve balance, strength, and flexibility without putting a strain on ligaments. Supplies needed: yoga mat, light weights, and water bottle. All levels.
Work toward establishing fundamental tap movements, vocabulary, and basic rhythms and steps that progress into fun and lively dance combinations. Supplies needed: tap shoes. Beginner.
Move at a slow, relaxed pace incorporating gentle stretches and poses that help to build flexibility and strength. Supplies needed: yoga mat and two yoga blocks. All levels.
Youth Programs
Develop imagination, concentration, speaking skills, and confidence through imagination games, improv exercises, character explorations, and storytelling. All levels.
Explore various art mediums with Ms. Ann and a Town of Leland staff member. You’ll get one hour with each instructor to do crafts that hone motor skills, encourage exploration, and foster opportunities for interaction between participants.
