We are heading into my favorite season. Fall can be a mixed bag in North Carolina, it’s still warm, but there is a crisp feel in the air at night. That’s how I feel about our September issue. Our writers have come up with a variety of story topics that I hope you enjoy.
In this issue, I write about a love affair that broke my heart and how meeting someone new helped me heal. In my story, “P.S. I Still Love You, Jack,” I realized that you can love more than once. And my husband is OK with the story!
In his story, “Safe Place,” Dan Neizmik recalls a different kind of love, but also gives us a wake up call about the safety of our children.
Maryann Nunnally loves, School Bus Drivers, and she tells you why in her story “School Bus Drivers Are My Heroes.”
Doug Ensley is back and his story, “Deadlift,” is a good one. Just who’s who in this twisted narrative and who will be the last one standing?
In her story, “Mourning Doves, IVF and Becoming Grandparents, ” Janet Stiegler is looking for signs of new life; some closer to home than others.
We have some contributed stories you don’t want to miss. If you are a veteran or first responder, check out the VCAP classes that are starting in the fall.
As always, I thank our talented writers for their stories and perspectives. We are almost at the end of the year and I know you will have some great holiday stories to tell.
Enjoy the new season.
