Can it get any hotter? Well, it’s North Carolina, I guess it can.
I’ve been staying in the house more because of this hot, hot, hot weather. It’s been a good time for reading and exploring things online. I hope you find our August issue entertaining so you can stay inside and enjoy it!
I think the older I get, the more the heat bothers me. Check out Maryann Nunnally’s story, “Saying No To Growing Old Gracefully,” for some really good ideas about fighting age. This month, I decided to update our Cape Fear Voices and Teen Scene initiatives. Sometimes it seems like we get so caught up in what we are doing, we forget to let everyone know what’s going on. In my story, “Updates on AAA, Cape Fear Voices and Teen Scene,” I ask you to consider volunteering for one of our initiatives. A Saturday afternoon, planning a party or an hour on Amazon shopping for party favors is all I’m asking. Please think about it. Dan Neizmik, one of our most talented writers considers “The Bucket List.” Dan was recently hospitalized and we are glad he is back home and feeling a bit better. Lisa Mote makes us laugh with her story, “The Mystery of My Missing Stuff,” and Gerald Decker talks about “The Summer of ’61,” and remembers fast balls and homerun hitting. I think we all had a Summer of ’61 that we fondly remember.
We have a few contributed stories this month. Don’t miss the Health Fair on August 1 (it’s been on our site since July 1,) this is an important event so make it successful. Brunswick Beer and Cider is offering a 11% “giving back” program that will be a real hit in the heat of the summer. We are very interested in partnering with them in this event so make sure, if we get a turn to participate, run, not walk, to Brunswick Beer and Cider and support them and us. Read, “About Brunswick Beer and Ciders 11% Giving Program.”
Before you know it, we will be in September and start our 4Q25/26 initiatives. I think this year missed a few months, it has gone so quickly by.
Enjoy this issue and send us comments on what you liked.
Thanks to all of our talented writers and teens for making our jobs fun!
